Egypt, Saudi, Qatar, Jordan, Emirates, and Palestine call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza

The Foreign Ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hussein Al-Sheikh, convened today in Cairo to discuss the catastrophic repercussions of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. The meeting focused on efforts to halt the aggression and address the unprecedented humanitarian crisis it has caused.

In a joint statement, the participants emphasized the urgent need for an immediate and inclusive ceasefire, increased access to humanitarian aid, the opening of all crossings between Israel and the Gaza Strip, and overcoming obstacles imposed by Israel. They stressed the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2720 to meet the needs of over two million Palestinians facing famine in Gaza.

Furthermore, the ministers underscored the importance of providing full support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). They reiterated their rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land or to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

The participants emphasized the necessity of ending all unilateral Israeli measures that undermine prospects for a just peace, including settlement construction and actions aimed at altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian sanctities.

The ministers reaffirmed the significance of the historical Hashemite custodianship in protecting the sanctities and Jerusalem and their Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity. They stressed the inevitability of implementing the two-state solution and establishing the Palestinian state in accordance with international references, including the Arab Peace Initiative.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue diplomatic efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and to work towards a lasting and just resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
