Foreign ministry urges EU and its Member States, US administration to recognize state of Palestine to protect two-state solution

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates urged the European Union (EU) and its Member States and the US Administration to take the initiative and recognize the State of Palestine to protect the two-state solution and support the Palestinian efforts to gain full membership in the United Nations.

The ministry, in a statement, stressed that the European and American recognition of the state of Palestine would establish the launching of a peace process and actual negotiations that would force Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to abide by the international will for peace as well as would guarantee the end of the occupation and the achievement of security and stability in the region.

The ministry also condemned statements made by Netanyahu, in which he boasted about rejecting an independent Palestinian state and the repetition of his colonial ambitions, which the ministry decried as inimical to peace.

The statement denounced Netanyahu’s remarks as racist, stating that they were aimed at maintaining control over the Palestinian people and the occupation of the internationally recognized Palestinian territories.

The ministry said that ever since Netanyahu took power in 2009, he has been bragging about and insisting on undermining any chance for the establishment of a Palestinian state under various pretexts, including alleged security reasons and what he calls existential threats to Israel, and vowing to maintain his position as long as he is in power.

It said Israel’s extreme right-wing government coalition has reaffirmed sabotaging all chances to revive the peace process and choosing war and the cycle of violence and chaos as an alternative to peace for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The statement stressed that the time has come for the international community to impose sanctions on Netanyahu and his right-wing collation and hold him directly and entirely responsible for the cycle of wars, violence and the human catastrophe that has befallen the Palestinian people.

The ministry further called for holding Israel’s prime minister directly responsible for the repercussions of his systematic destruction of the peace process and all forms of negotiations and for his disregard of all signed agreements.
