Newspapers Review: Two Palestinians killed by Israeli occupation forces in Nablus highlight of dailies

The Israeli occupation forces killing of two Palestinians during a raid of the northern West Bank city of Nablus yesterday was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies published today.

“Bloody morning in Nablus; two martyrs and dozens of injures,” said al-Hayat al-Jadida daily in its main front-page story headline, printing pictures of the two killed and their funeral.

Al-Ayyam daily said in its main front-page story headline printed on a black background: “The occupation continues in the killings: two martyrs by bullets during a large-scale raid of Nablus.” It also published pictures of the funeral and bereaved parents.

The third daily, al-Quds, said “two martyrs and injuries in Nablus,” while also printing a picture of the funeral of the two.

The dailies also printed the condemnation of the presidency for the ongoing Israeli killing of Palestinians in the occupied territories.

The three dailies also reported on the funeral of a Palestinian killed by soldiers three months ago after Israel released his body and returned it to his family to be buried in his hometown of al-Dahriyeh in the Hebron district in the south of the West Bank.

The dailies also said that injuries were also caused by attacks by settlers against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.

The three dailies also said the Palestinian cabinet approved the 2023 budget and submitted it to President Mahmoud Abbas for ratification.

They said Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called on striking teachers to resume teaching in their schools.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that after 22 years in courts, the Israeli High Court ruled that the Palestinian Sumrin family should not be evicted from its home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.

Al-Ayyam said Jewish settler groups sought to seize the Sumrin house in order to expand the illegal settlement of Ir David.

The daily said in another story that the Israeli government plans to build 6500 housing units in illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.

It also said Hamas has sentenced two people in Gaza to death for spying for Israel.
