Newspapers Review: Israeli uprooting of trees, demolition orders, seizure of land, and more focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, February 15, 2021 – Israeli uprooting of trees, orders for demolition of Palestinian-owned homes, seizure of land, settlement expansion plans, and eviction orders against Palestinian families were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian-Arabic dailies published today.

Al-Ayyam daily said the Israeli occupation authorities and the settlers have escalated their attacks against Palestinians and their properties in the occupied territories, including the appropriation of lands in Azzoun village, uprooting of 1000 trees in Tubas, and issuing demolition orders against 15 homes in Yatma village, all in the north of the West Bank.

Al-Quds daily said Israel approved the allocation of over $10 million for the appropriation of Palestinian-owned land in the occupied West Bank for the expansion of its illegal settlements.

The third daily, al-Hayat al-Jadida, said the Israeli occupation ordered the eviction of a Palestinian family from its home in East Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood for the benefit of settlers.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian Foreign Ministry has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to speed up its investigation of Israeli war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories, including its settlement activities.

Al-Ayyam said an Israeli report has claimed that Israel is considering imposing sanctions on Palestinian Authority officials for complaining against Israel to the ICC.

Al-Quds said Gaza is looking for justice through the ICC.

Coronavirus in Palestine and the region occupied space on the front page of the three dailies, which said that three people have died of the disease in the West Bank and Gaza, and 804 new cases were recorded in 24 hours.

Al-Quds said two people died of corona in occupied East Jerusalem, and 208 new cases were recorded over 48 hours, and one death from corona was recorded among Palestinians in the diaspora.

It quoted Palestinian Minister of Telecommunications Ishaq Sider saying that Israel’s expansion of its cellular network to include the occupied territories is a violation of the agreements.

Al-Ayyam said an agreement was reached to deliver Israeli natural gas to Gaza’s power plant.

It said the occupying power, Israel, is considering allowing corona vaccines to reach the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian Authority.

Al-Quds said Palestinian prisoners at the Israeli army’s Ofer camp and detention center have decided to start protests steps as of today against the surge in inspections and repression against them.
