Teachers held at military checkpoint in Hebron, classes delayed

Palestinian school teachers heading to Qurtoba school in Hebron’s old city on Thursday were held at an Israeli army checkpoint and were not allowed through until after an intervention from the Red Cross and the Palestinian liaison office, according to Qurtoba principal Nora Nassar.

She told WAFA that the soldiers held the teachers, all women, at Shuhada Street checkpoint and blocked their passage to school, causing delay in holding classes.

She said that after an intervention from the Red Cross and the Palestinian liaison office the military allowed the teachers to continue to their school.

Meanwhile, Israeli soldiers fired tear gas canisters at schools in Hebron’s southern area; causing several students to suffer from gas inhalation, suffocations and unconsciousness, WAFA correspondent said.

Students and teachers in Hebron’s old city, where some 400 fanatic Jewish settlers and 40,000 Palestinians live and which is under full Israeli military control, regularly suffer harassment by soldiers at military checkpoints by body searches, inspecting their schools bags and long delays.
