Visualizing Palestine: Above the law? UN Security Council Vetoes since 1970

Each member of the UN Security Council has the power to veto resolutions intended to uphold international law.

Since 1970, the US has used more vetoes than all other UN Security Council members combined.

Over half of US vetoes were used to protect Israel from accountability for human rights violations. In the face of American governmental intransigence, Palestinian civil society has called for people around the world to pressure Israel through boycott, divestment, and sanctions.

While the international community has proven unable or unwilling to hold Israel to account, a growing citizens’ movement is taking constructive action in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle for freedom, justice, and equality.
