Israeli forces to demolish Palestinian homes in Qalqiliya-district village

Israeli forces Friday delivered demolition orders for a number of Palestinian homes in the town of Jit, east of Qalqiliya in the northern West Bank, said security and municipal sources.

Israeli forces and so-called “Civil Administration” officers broke into the town and handed demolition orders to 11 Palestinians purportedly for building their homes without obtaining necessary licenses.

The homeowners were reportedly told their appeals to the demolition orders would be considered by a court on September 27.

Head of Jit Local Council Omar Yamin said the homes slated for demolition are located in the northern and southern sections of the town.

He added the council would hold a meeting for the homeowners in order to submit an appeal to an Israeli court against the demolition orders.

Only 14 percent of the town is classified as Area B, while the remaining 86 percent is classified as Area C, where construction licenses must be approved by the so-called Israeli Civil Administration for construction to take place.

As a result of being rarely granted licenses, Palestinians in the West Bank, especially East Jerusalem and Area C, are forced to embark on construction, which is liable to be demolished later on by Israeli forces.

The “Civil Administration” is the name Israel gives to the body administering its military occupation of the West Bank.
