Israeli forces detain four Palestinians, including lawmaker, in West Banks raids

JERUSALEM – Israeli forces Friday detained at least four Palestinians, including a lawmaker, in multiple overnight raids that sparked clashes in several West Bank districts, said WAFA correspondents and security sources.

Israeli forces detained 66-year-old Palestinian lawmaker Muhammad Abu Tair after storming his home in Umm al-Sharayet neighborhood, south of al-Bireh city in the central West Bank.

Abu Teir, a Hamas-affiliated member of the Palestinian Legislative Council representing Jerusalem. He has intermittently spent at least 32 years in Israeli imprisonment since he was first detained in 1974 and his residency status was revoked several years ago.

Separately, Israeli police detained two Palestinians from East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.

This came as heavy police reinforcements were deployed around and in Jerusalem’s Old City in anticipation of Friday prayers.

In Ramallah district, forces detained a Palestinian during a predawn raid that sparked violent clashes in Qalandiya refugee camp, south of Ramallah.

Forces opened fire at Palestinian youths who protested the raid and attempted to block their passage (access), hitting and injuring a protestor with .22 caliber live bullet, known as Toto ammunition, in the leg.

The injured protestor, who was not identified, was rushed to Ramallah Medical Complex for treatment.

Qalandiya Media Center said renewed clashes erupted between protestors and Israeli troops, who fired .22 caliber live and rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades Friday morning.

In the southern West Bank, a Palestinian was shot and injured during a military raid into Beit Fajjar town, south of Bethlehem.

Local security sources Israeli troops raided the town, triggering clashes during which they shot and injured a Palestinian young man with a live round in the chest.

The injured man, who remained unidentified, was rushed to a Bethlehem-district hospital, where medics described his situation as stable.
