Settlers set up caravans on evacuated settlement near Jenin

JENIN – Israeli settlers backed by a military escort Thursday installed caravans and tents at the site of Sanour near Jenin in the north of the West Bank, which was a former Israeli settlement that was evacuated in 2005, according to local sources.

Israeli settlers and forces broke into the site where the settlement was located, leveled the land and installed caravans and tents.

The settlers also performed rituals and chanted anti-Arab hate slogans, witnesses told WAFA.

Israel abandoned the site in addition to three other settlements and a military base in Jenin area in 2005 as part of the unilateral disengagement plan by which Israel left the Gaza Strip and the four sites in Jenin.

Settlers, nevertheless, visit the site regularly with heavy army protection and there are beliefs that they want to rebuild the settlements.
