Israeli police detains 15 Palestinians in East Jerusalem bringing week’s total to almost 50

JERUSALEM – In clear vengeful act, Israeli police detained 15 Palestinians during wide range night raids at homes in several East Jerusalem neighborhoods bringing the total number of Palestinians detained this week to almost 50, Palestinian and Israeli reports said on Thursday.

Israeli police said its forces raided many Palestinian homes in the neighborhoods of Wadi al-Joz, Silwan, Ras el-Amoud, al-Tur, Beit Hanina and the Old City and rounded up 15 Palestinians whom it claimed were involved in the violence that raged in the occupied city in the aftermath of the Israeli closure of the Muslim holy compound in Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Police had earlier rounded up another 33 Palestinians in the occupied city whom it claimed were also involved in the unrest of the past two weeks.

Palestinians said police raided during the night many homes in the city, terrorizing inhabitants and frightening children as they forcefully and violently dragged their victims from their beds and threw them into police vans while ransacking their family homes.

Most of the detained Palestinians are teenagers and minors, said the Palestinians.

Israeli courts have already remanded 31 of the 33 Palestinians detained earlier after police presented evidence of their involvement in the confrontations with the occupation forces in the city.
