The Israeli occupation army informed last night the family of Mohammad Adnan Zir’ini, a Palestinian nurse who was captured by the army on September 26, that their home in the northern West Bank town of Burqin will be demolished within three days.
The occupation army reportedly gave the family of Zir’ini three days to evacuate their home ahead of its punitive demolition within the next three days.
Zir’ini was arrested by the Israeli occupation army on September 26 during a predawn raid of his home in Burqin, about 4km west of the city of Jenin, and was shot with live bullets and critically injured by the attacking forces. He has been hospitalized in intensive care since then.
During the raid of his home on September 26, the Israeli occupation forces assassinated two Palestinians in the town, including a 16-year-old minor identified as Yousuf Soboh.
The Israeli occupation army has long used to punitively demolish the homes of the families of Palestinians accused of being involved in attacks against Israelis, a policy that it does not use against Israeli settlers who are involved in fatal attacks against Palestinians.
B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights group, has said: “The people who bear the brunt of the [punitive] demolitions are relatives – including women, the elderly, and children – whom Israel does not suspect of involvement in any offense.”
“In the vast majority of cases, the person whose actions prompted the demolition was not even living in the house at the time of the demolition,” adds the group.
“The official objective of the house demolition policy is deterrence … yet the deterrent effect of house demolitions has never been proven.”
