Israeli forces detain five Palestinians from West Bank

JERUSALEM, Friday, February 19, 2021 – Israeli forces Friday overnight detained five Palestinians from the West Bank districts of Jenin and Jerusalem, according to local sources.

Director of the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) Office in Jenin Muntaser Samour said that Israeli forces barged their way into the northern West Bank city of Jenin, where they rounded up two Palestinians.

Israeli soldiers Thursday evening detained a Palestinian teen after summoning him to appear before intelligence at the Salem military interrogation and detention facility. The detainee was identified as a resident of Qabatiya town, south of the city.

Meanwhile, Israeli police detained two other Palestinians, including a teen, from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Tur.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.

These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.

Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
