Monograph is covering the historiography, culture and identity of a Palestinian village, Lubya, demolished in 1948, uprooting and dispersing all its population; nowadays residing in thirteen different countries in the four corners of the world. To erase the witnesses and the debris of the houses, a huge green forest called “South African Forest” is planted to bury the last remnants and cover up the horrible crime of the demolishment. Around 3500 people were living in Lubya before the Nakba in 1948; nowadays, they are almost 50.000. The main method used to reconstruct the historiography of Lubya – the biggest in Tiberias district, and the second in Galilee- is qualitative interviews with the elderly generation, supported by archival documents in Jerusalem, Nazareth, London; diaries, newspaper articles and historical references. Young Lubyan generation living in exile were interviewed as well to follow their aspirations, livelihood, identity question, integration and their dreams of return.

Die Monographie behandelt die Geschichtsschreibung, Kultur und Identität eines palästinensischen Dorfes, Lubya, das 1948 abgerissen wurde, seine gesamte Bevölkerung entwurzelte und zerstreute und heute in dreizehn verschiedenen Ländern in den vier Ecken der Welt lebt. Um die Zeugen und die Trümmer der Häuser auszulöschen, wird ein riesiger grüner Wald namens “Südafrikanischer Wald” gepflanzt, um die letzten Überreste zu begraben und das schreckliche Verbrechen der Zerstörung zu vertuschen. In Lubya lebten vor der Nakba 1948 etwa 3500 Menschen, heute sind es fast 50.000. Die wichtigste Methode zur Rekonstruktion der Geschichtsschreibung von Lubya – die größte im Bezirk Tiberias und die zweite in Galiläa – sind qualitative Interviews mit der älteren Generation, unterstützt durch Archivdokumente in Jerusalem, Nazareth und London, Tagebücher, Zeitungsartikel und historische Referenzen. Auch die im Exil lebende junge lubische Generation wurde interviewt, um ihre Hoffnungen, ihren Lebensunterhalt, ihre Identitätsfrage, ihre Integration und ihre Träume von einer Rückkehr zu verfolgen.

De monografie gaat over de geschiedschrijving, cultuur en identiteit van een Palestijns dorp, Lubya, dat in 1948 werd afgebroken, waardoor de hele bevolking werd ontworteld en verspreid; tegenwoordig woont het dorp in dertien verschillende landen in de vier hoeken van de wereld. Om de getuigen en het puin van de huizen te wissen, wordt een groot groen bos, “South African Forest” genaamd, geplant om de laatste overblijfselen te begraven en de verschrikkelijke misdaad van de sloop te verdoezelen. Rond 3500 mensen woonden in Lubya voor de Nakba in 1948; tegenwoordig zijn dat er bijna 50.000. De belangrijkste methode om de historiografie van Lubya te reconstrueren – de grootste in de wijk Tiberias en de tweede in Galilea – zijn kwalitatieve interviews met de oudere generatie, ondersteund door archiefdocumenten in Jeruzalem, Nazareth, Londen; dagboeken, krantenartikelen en historische referenties. De jonge Lubyan-generatie die in ballingschap leeft, werd ook geïnterviewd om hun aspiraties, levensonderhoud, identiteitsvraagstukken, integratie en hun dromen over terugkeer te volgen.

Per cancellare le testimonianze e le macerie delle case, viene piantata un’enorme foresta verde chiamata “South African Forest” per seppellire gli ultimi resti e coprire l’orribile crimine della demolizione. Circa 3500 persone vivevano a Lubya prima della Nakba nel 1948; oggi sono quasi 50.000. Il metodo principale utilizzato per ricostruire la storiografia di Lubya – la più grande del distretto di Tiberiade e la seconda della Galilea – è costituito da interviste qualitative alla generazione degli anziani, supportate da documenti d’archivio a Gerusalemme, Nazareth, Londra; diari, articoli di giornale e riferimenti storici. Anche le giovani generazioni di Lubyan che vivono in esilio sono state intervistate per seguire le loro aspirazioni, il loro sostentamento, la questione dell’identità, l’integrazione e i loro sogni di ritorno.

Para borrar los testigos y los escombros de las casas, se planta un enorme bosque verde llamado “Bosque Sudafricano” para enterrar los últimos restos y encubrir el horrible crimen de la demolición. Alrededor de 3500 personas vivían en Lubya antes de la Nakba en 1948; hoy en día, son casi 50.000. El principal método utilizado para reconstruir la historiografía de Lubya -el mayor en el distrito de Tiberíades, y el segundo en Galilea- es la realización de entrevistas cualitativas con la generación de los ancianos, apoyadas por documentos de archivo en Jerusalén, Nazaret, Londres; diarios, artículos periodísticos y referencias históricas. También se entrevistó a la generación joven de Lubia que vivía en el exilio para seguir sus aspiraciones, su sustento, la cuestión de la identidad, la integración y sus sueños de retorno.

La monographie porte sur l’historiographie, la culture et l’identité d’un village palestinien, la Lubya, démoli en 1948, qui a déraciné et dispersé toute sa population ; elle réside aujourd’hui dans treize pays différents aux quatre coins du monde. Pour effacer les témoins et les débris des maisons, une immense forêt verte appelée “forêt sud-africaine” est plantée pour enterrer les derniers vestiges et couvrir l’horrible crime de la démolition. Avant la Nakba en 1948, environ 3500 personnes vivaient en Lubya ; aujourd’hui, elles sont près de 50 000. La principale méthode utilisée pour reconstituer l’historiographie de la Lubie – la plus importante dans le district de Tibériade, et la seconde en Galilée – consiste en des entretiens qualitatifs avec la génération des personnes âgées, étayés par des documents d’archives à Jérusalem, Nazareth, Londres ; des journaux intimes, des articles de journaux et des références historiques. Les jeunes de la génération libyenne vivant en exil ont également été interviewés pour suivre leurs aspirations, leurs moyens de subsistance, leur question d’identité, leur intégration et leurs rêves de retour.

Monografia obejmuje historiografię, kulturę i tożsamość palestyńskiej wioski, Lubyi, zburzonej w 1948 r., wysiedlającej i rozpraszającej całą swoją ludność; obecnie zamieszkującej trzynaście różnych krajów w czterech zakątkach świata. W celu wymazania świadków i szczątków domów, zasadza się ogromny zielony las zwany “Lasem Południowoafrykańskim”, aby zakopać ostatnie szczątki i zatuszować straszliwą zbrodnię wyburzenia. Około 3500 osób mieszkało w Lubyi przed Nakbą w 1948 roku, obecnie jest ich prawie 50 000. Główną metodą rekonstrukcji historiografii Lubi – największej w dzielnicy Tyberiady, a drugiej w Galilei – są wywiady jakościowe ze starszym pokoleniem, poparte archiwalnymi dokumentami w Jerozolimie, Nazarecie, Londynie; pamiętniki, artykuły prasowe i odniesienia historyczne. Wywiady przeprowadzono z młodym pokoleniem lubyjskim żyjącym na emigracji, aby śledzić ich aspiracje, sposób życia, pytanie o tożsamość, integrację i marzenia o powrocie.
