Stop annexation of Palestine 2020

In the shadow of the corona pandemic and with support from Trump, Israel is planning an immense annexation of Palestine. From July 1st Israel will forcefully take over a minimum 40 % of occupied Palestine. This is categorically illegal according to international law.
If the annexation is carried out, it will be impossible to create a coherent Palestinian state. Israel’s annexation will leave a hollow map of small, densely populated Palestinian enclaves that will resemble Bantustans during apartheid in South Africa. The consequences will be fatal to Palestinians’ access to water and food as Israel is planning to annex parts of the West Bank where Palestinian’s very limited water resources are found and where more than 50 % of food in the West Bank is cultivated. Israel will also increase its military power in the area, violent attacks on Palestinian civilians and house demolitions. The annexation is a continuation of Israel’s long-standing occupation and ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
The Danish government’s failure to act is very reprehensible. Together with the EU, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod (S) has sent a message to Israel mentioning that they should adhere to international law, yet Kofod doesn’t put his words into action when avoiding to pose any threats or sanctions that could harm the existing EU-Israel trade agreements. Clearly, Kofod doesn’t live up to his responsibility to international conventions when choosing to close his eyes to the violent attacks on the West Bank, merely to continue his economic and political agreements with Israel.
This is not good enough. Israel couldn’t care less about a few diplomatic statements when no sanctions or other real consequences seem to hit them. We need stronger means to be utilized. And we need urgent, massive pressure from the international community to stop Israel and Trump’s plans.
We demand that Denmark and the EU not simply stand by while Israel and Trump break international law and continue their plans for annexation with unprecedented serious consequences for the future of Palestinians.
We demand that the Danish government imposes sanctions on Israel to pressure them to abolish the occupation and to abandon their plans for the annexation of Palestine.
The initiative is not affiliated with any political party and is financially independent.
