Israeli municipality to wipe out decades-old Palestinian industrial area in East Jerusalem

The Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem yesterday issued an order to evict and demolish 200 decades-old Palestinian-owned industrial structures in Wad al-Joz neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, according to sources.

Chairman of East Jerusalem’s Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kamal Obeidat, told WAFA that the Israeli municipality, at the recommendation of its all-Israeli Planning and Zoning Committee, issued a final order to evict and demolish 200 structures in Wad al-Joz industrial area, including car repair and parts shops, restaurants, and other facilities.

He added that what he described as “racist order” came to obliterate the only Palestinian industrial area in East Jerusalem that serves the city’s 300,000 residents in an effort to change the character of the Palestinian city and use the land to build Israeli structures.
