Administrative detention orders issued against 41 Palestinians

The Israeli authorities recently issued administration detention orders against 41 Palestinians, including a member of the Palestinian parliament, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Tuesday.

PPS attorney Mahmoud Halabi said the Israeli authorities extended the detention period of Khalida Jarrar, a parliament member, by six months after serving her first six months in administrative detention.

He said 16 of the administrative detention orders were issued against Palestinians who were detained for the first time or were re-detained after being released from prison upon completing their former sentence.

International rights organizations have strongly denounced Israel’s excessive use of administrative detention to silence Palestinian activists, who are usually held without charge or trial for long periods of time.
