Agricultural committees to distribute seedlings to farmers to protect their land

The Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) said on Thursday that it will launch a large campaign on Sunday to distribute olive trees and seedlings to farmers in areas in the West Bank threatened with Israeli takeover.

It said in a statement that the decision was made after Israel has announced the construction of 14000 new settlement homes in Jerusalem and the construction of new settlements particularly in the Jordan Valley area of the occupied West Bank following a US decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

UAWC said the campaign targets areas east of Jerusalem until Jericho, particularly an area known as E1 where Bedouin communities live and are under pressure of eviction.

It also targets herding areas in the Bethlehem district near settlements and where Israel intends to build a wall, as well as areas in the Nablus district regularly attacked by Israeli settlers.

“Protecting the land from expropriation and takeover and strengthening the steadfastness of the farmers on their land will be done through planting the land with trees and by protecting it,” said the statement.
