Israel detains five from Bethlehem area following clashes in al-Khader

BETHLEHEM – Israeli forces detained early Monday five Palestinians from Bethlehem district, in the southern West Bank, according to Palestinian security sources, hours after soldiers clashed with Palestinian residents of the town of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem.

Palestinians protesting the Israeli measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem clashed with Israeli soldiers in al-Khader on Sunday night.

The soldiers showered the town with teargas canisters and fired rubber bullets at the demonstrators to disperse them.

Medics reported several cases of suffocation by teargas inhalation.

The five detained by the Israeli forces were from al-Khader as well as from Taqou, Hosan and Dheisheh refugee camp, all in the Bethlehem area.
